Ant Control
Ants are notoriously difficult to control.
Ants are happiest in warm, sunny climates and ant nests can be located anywhere around your house – in lawns, walls, tree stumps, even under your foundations. A small pile of dirt in your garden can be an indication you have an ants nest, or the more obvious tell-tale sign of an ant trail in or around your home.
Ant colonies can live a relatively long time, with queen ants living as long as 15 years. A regular colony can number up to 500,000 ants, and entire colonies will quickly relocate when threatened.
Ants enter your home through the tiniest of cracks. Seeking out water, sweet, or greasy food, they will travel long distances to find a food source and leave an invisible pheromone trail for others to follow once they locate one. If you discover an ant trail in your kitchen, prompt treatment is advisable.
Most over-the-counter ant control products only kill the ants you see, and they don’t allow for the various species of ants that require different treatments.
Eastern Suburbs Pest Control ant treatments target all ant species at the source, destroying the nest and the entire life cycle of the colony.
Bed Bugs Control
Bedbugs are small parasitic insects that are incredibly hard to find.
Despite their name, bedbugs never sleep, and can turn up in your home without any warning. Bedbugs can travel with people once they leave an infestation, and the latest statistics suggest that up to 1 in 10 tourists have come across bedbugs whilst travelling in Australia.
On first visit, our technician will examine your entire home, including beds, furniture, rugs and linens, looking for signs of bedbugs that include: live or dead bedbugs, small spots of reddish-black droppings, tiny cream coloured eggs often found in dark crevices.
Following the inspection, your Eastern Suburbs Pest Control technician will recommend a treatment plan. The treatment targets bedbugs and bedbug larvae, eradicating the risk of them growing into mature, breeding, biting, disease-carrying adults. Treatment can take 3-4 visits. Because early detection and control is critical, following any bedbug treatment a Eastern Suburbs Pest Control technician will periodically monitor your home to ensure any potential infestation is always stopped early.
Bird Control
Your buildings provide warmth, shelter, moisture and food for birds. The most common complaints are birds nesting in roof voids and bird mites which travel from the bird to us. However there are many different problems associated with Birds and we can offer guaranteed solutions to many of them.
So whatever your particular problem is please call us for some friendly advice.
Birds can transmit diseases, even particularly nasty ones such as SARS, and spread disease such as Salmonella which is a severe form of food poisoning. The Salmonella bacteria can be found in the bird droppings and also in the eggs of infected Birds. Fungal airborne diseases are also a problem with infected birds and we can develop quite serious illnesses not unlike a severe form of flu.Birds can offer a safe haven for fleas and bird mites. The fleas and mites are feeding off the birds in their nest and when the birds leave their nest these little predators come searching for us. The bites from Bird Mites can be quite painful and flea and mite populations can build up very quickly.
Cockroach Control
Your home is an ideal breeding ground for cockroaches.
With plenty of food, warmth, water, and dark areas for nesting within your walls, they can remain active all year around. Cockroaches can wreak havoc on your home. Carrying many diseases they are usually found near waste areas, where food is present. The debris and droppings they create can aggravate allergies and asthma, especially in children.
Cockroaches can sneak into your house in many ways. Often through cracks, crevices and sewer pipes; sometimes even in grocery bags or boxes!
Cockroaches are far better at hiding than you are at finding them. For every one that you see there can be many more hiding and multiplying behind the walls. And because they are nocturnal, the few you see by day are often those forced out by overcrowding, which is a sure sign of a severe infestation.
Cockroach eggs are protected from many over-the-counter insecticides, so the war on cockroaches can never truly be won without professional pest control.
Eastern Suburbs Pest Control use a patented treatment to safely and effectively remove all species of cockroaches, and their eggs, and destroy their nests, in one simple application.
Flea Control
Fleas are external adult parasites that draw blood from a host to feed.
Measuring approximately 2.5mm in length, reddish brown in colour and with shiny bodies, they can be found crawling on the skin of the host. Fleas are covered with microscopic hair, they do not have wings, but they can jump impressively long distances.
Fleas prefer to feed on furry animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and mice. Larvae feed on organic debris, particularly the faeces of adult fleas. Humans are not a preferred food for fleas, but they do still often bite, leaving itchy bumps and possible flea allergies. Fleas may also carry diseases such as typhus.
Rather than being attached to the host, eggs are found in rugs, upholstery, carpet, bedding, or cracks in the floor. Most eggs will hatch within 2 days.
If a pet is continually scratching and grooming itself, it could have fleas. A thorough investigation of the pet should be conducted immediately, either by yourself or a vet.
Flea infestations usually require a layered treatment plan, addressing both the pet’s infestation as well as the home. This encompasses both chemical and physical methods, covering both inside and outside the home. Prior to treatment, the pest technician may ask you to thoroughly vacuum all carpets, sweep and mop hard surfaces, wash all bedding and linens.
Rodent Control
Rodents present a serious threat to your home.
Rats can carry and transmit a number of serious diseases; they can also introduce disease-carrying parasites such as fleas and ticks into your home. With their oversized front teeth they also chew on a variety of items, causing great damage around the house.
Rodents enter your home looking for food, warmth and water. Because of their shape, they are able to squeeze through spaces that on first sight look far too small for them. All holes should be sealed to prevent their entry and re-entry.
The habits and biology of rodents make them particularly difficult to control. Being instinctively wary of new things in their environment, such as traps and baits, they colonise in attics, burrows, wall voids, under concrete, and other hard-to-reach places.
Rodents are rapid breeders. Some species will breed all year round, making it very challenging to control a colony.
If you find a rodent in your house, a pest control professional should be contacted immediately for assistance.
Silverfish Control
Silverfish can cause extensive damage throughout your home.
The name derives from the insect’s silvery grey colour, combined with its fish-like movements. Also known as a fish moth, it is a small wingless insect known for its destructive eating habits, including carpet, clothing, hair, paper, plaster, cotton and linen. During famine it has even been known to attack leather!
Silverfish can survive in most climates, but they are happiest in high humidity. Therefore, they usually infest in dark, damp areas, such as kitchens, laundry rooms, bathrooms and basements. As they are nocturnal and move very quickly they are very hard to spot until an infestation has truly taken hold.
Female silverfish can lay up to 20 eggs a day, and eggs are usually hidden in small cracks and crevices making them difficult to locate, so infestations can grow rapidly and without any warning.
Over-the-counter insecticides will only kill single insects, so a silverfish infestation requires professional pest control treatment to eradicate insects and the eggs.
Spider Control
There are approximately 2,900 species of spider in Australia.
These range from the everyday daddy long legs to the venomous and highly dangerous funnel web.
Each species has its own preferred hiding place. Some spiders like moisture and can be found in basements, crawl spaces, and other damp areas of the house; others prefer dry, dark, warm areas such as air vents and upper corners of attics.
Spiders feed on other insects that they either catch in their web or hunt. Some even steal food from other spiders!
Spiders lay their eggs in sacs, usually up to 100 eggs in each. Look for white silken sacs around the house and garden.
Garden spiders, as their name suggests, can be found outdoors, often in webs, which they use to catch food. Garden spiders aren’t aggressive, but could bite if provoked.
Some species of spider will bite humans, which need immediate medical attention, therefore treating any spider infestation promptly with professional pest control is highly recommended. Watch particularly for redback spiders (named for the red markings on its back), funnel-web spiders, trap-door spiders and white-tail spiders.
Though Australian spiders have a fearsome reputation across the globe.
Termite Control
Preventative…
Moisture attracts foraging worker termites so to counteract this, Eastern suburbs Pest Control uses powered electric fans and air vents to maximize subfloor air flow. Subfloor fans and vents also reduce mould and fungi growth under the floor and discourage foraging termites and borer attack.
Wasp Control
Our homes provide many perfect places for wasps to build a nest.
Under the eaves, behind gutters, tucked amongst a pergola, or even in the roof space if they have access; our homes and gardens provide plenty of food and shelter for a wasp colony to thrive.
Wasps are often confused with bees, however they are quite different. Bees are pollenators whereas wasps are predators; wasps also tend to be more aggressive.
Wasp stings are painful and in some people, can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis, so immediate wasp nest treatment and removal is essential.
If you are experiencing a high number of wasps around your home, there is probably a nest nearby. If you discover a wasp nest, though it is tempting to try and eradicate it yourself, it is recommended that you use a professional pest control expert to manage the nest. If the wasps feel threatened, they may become aggressive, stinging you many times to protect their nest and young.
On finding a nest, keep children away, close windows and doors, remove any sweet and sticky food and store it securely, and ensure your garbage is secure and locked.
Your Eastern Suburbs Pest Control technician has the expertise to safely and quickly control the wasp nest, treating the nest and nesting wasps.
